Restoration

Historic Church Restoration — St. Andrews, Richmond

A meticulous restoration of an 1878 Episcopal church that had suffered extensive water damage to its original heart pine pews and flooring. Our team sourced period-appropriate heart pine from a demolished tobacco warehouse of the same era, custom-milled to match the original tongue-and-groove profile at 7/8 inch thickness with a 3-1/4 inch face width. We also supplied replacement white oak ceiling beams — four 6x12 timbers at 18-foot lengths — salvaged from a decommissioned rail bridge in Lynchburg. The church architect noted that the grain density and color of our reclaimed material was indistinguishable from the surviving original woodwork.

Hospitality

The Pemberton Hotel Lobby — Norfolk Downtown

A boutique hotel conversion of a 1920s department store building required a dramatic lobby design that honored the structure's commercial heritage. The design team specified reclaimed Douglas fir for a floor-to-ceiling feature wall behind the reception desk, with exposed original brick flanking both sides. We supplied 1,200 board feet of resawn Douglas fir in a mix of 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch widths, planed on one face and left rough-sawn on the other for a textured installation. The check-in desk itself is a 14-foot monolithic slab of reclaimed white oak, 3 inches thick, finished with a hand-rubbed tung oil that highlights the centuries-old grain.

Vine & Barrel Wine Tasting Room — Charlottesville

This wine bar and tasting room was designed to evoke the barrel rooms of Virginia's wine country. We supplied reclaimed white oak — the same species used to make wine and bourbon barrels — for the bar top, tasting tables, and wall paneling. The bar top features a 20-foot continuous slab of quartersawn white oak with prominent medullary ray fleck, finished with a waterproof marine-grade varnish. Reclaimed poplar shiplap in a whitewashed finish covers the ceiling, creating a bright contrast to the rich oak tones below. Wine storage cubbies were fabricated from reclaimed chestnut, whose warm brown tones complement the oak beautifully.

Coastal Farmhouse Kitchen — Duck, NC

A complete kitchen renovation centered around a massive island with a reclaimed heart pine countertop measuring 4 feet by 10 feet, assembled from 8-inch-wide boards joined with blind dowels and finished with a food-safe hardwax oil. Open shelving in reclaimed white oak replaced upper cabinets, supported by hand-forged iron brackets. The existing oak plank floor was extended with carefully matched reclaimed red oak to seamlessly blend old and new sections. A reclaimed chestnut beam was installed as a range hood surround, adding rustic warmth above the professional-grade stove. The homeowner specifically chose reclaimed materials for their durability and the patina that new wood cannot replicate.

Waterfront Deck & Pergola — Virginia Beach Oceanfront

An ambitious outdoor living project on a beachfront property where salt air and UV exposure demanded the most durable materials available. We supplied reclaimed cypress decking in 5/4x6 profile, chosen for its exceptional natural rot resistance and proven coastal performance — the cypress was salvaged from a 1930s Gulf Coast warehouse and had already survived 90 years in a salt-air environment. The pergola structure uses reclaimed Douglas fir 6x6 posts and 4x8 rafters, all treated with a UV-resistant penetrating oil finish. Decorative railing sections incorporate reclaimed white oak spindles turned on our lathe to a traditional coastal balusted profile.

Event Venue

Meadowbrook Barn Conversion — Event Venue, Culpeper, VA

An 1890s dairy barn converted into a premier wedding and event venue. The original hand-hewn hemlock timber frame was preserved and reinforced by a structural engineer, with new steel connection plates hidden inside the mortise-and-tenon joints. We supplied 4,500 board feet of reclaimed heart pine flooring for the main event space, installed over a plywood subfloor with a full vapor barrier. The original barn siding — a mix of hemlock and white pine — was removed, cleaned, de-nailed, and reinstalled as interior wall cladding, preserving the authentic weathered patina. New restroom and kitchen additions were clad in reclaimed barn wood siding sourced from a neighboring property to maintain visual consistency. A 22-foot reclaimed oak beam serves as the ceremony arbor focal point.

Tidewater Tech Modern Office — Norfolk

A technology company headquarters that pairs reclaimed wood with steel, glass, and concrete for a modern industrial aesthetic. Reclaimed white oak was used for conference table tops in three meeting rooms — each table is a single 12-foot slab with live edge, mounted on custom welded steel bases. Acoustic wall panels in the open-plan workspace are backed with reclaimed pine boards of varying widths and patinas, arranged in a randomized pattern that functions as both sound absorption and visual art. The CEO's office features a reclaimed walnut standing desk and matching credenza built by a local furniture maker from stock we supplied. Corridor wayfinding signs are etched into reclaimed chestnut plaques mounted on raw steel brackets.

Heritage Outfitters Flagship Store — Williamsburg

An outdoor clothing and gear retailer designed their flagship store to reflect their brand values of durability, authenticity, and environmental responsibility. The entire sales floor features reclaimed heart pine flooring in a skip-planed finish that retains saw marks and surface character while providing a smooth walking surface. Product display fixtures are built from reclaimed scaffolding planks — Douglas fir boards with bolt holes and paint marks that tell the story of their previous life. The fitting room corridor is lined with reclaimed cedar shiplap, whose natural aroma enhances the customer experience. A central feature table made from a reclaimed elm cross-section slab (38 inches in diameter) displays seasonal merchandise. The store earned LEED Silver certification, with our reclaimed materials contributing to multiple credit categories.

Private Library & Study — Great Falls, VA

A dedicated home library designed to evoke the warmth and gravitas of a traditional English study. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in reclaimed cherry, custom-milled with raised-panel ends and crown molding profiles, line three walls of the 18x22-foot room. The shelving stock was sourced from a demolished 1920s school auditorium and features the deep reddish-brown patina that only decades of light exposure can produce. The floor is reclaimed quartersawn white oak in a herringbone pattern, each piece individually cut to 3x18 inches and hand-fitted. A reclaimed walnut partner's desk occupies the center of the room, and the coffered ceiling panels are reclaimed poplar, painted in the client's chosen heritage green.
